NEWS FROM ERASMUS+ RADIO

Oct. 22-23, 2025. Pr. Congduc Pham, who coordinated PRIMA INTEL-IRRIS and is leading the development of the multidisciplinary ISP on IoT in ERASMUS+ RADIO, was invited to participate to the Mediterranean Water Management Workshop organized by UFZ in Magdeburg, Germany. The event will serve as a forum for interdisciplinary scientists with complementary expertise to address “The Mediterranean Paradox”, a region that simultaneously faces severe water stress while also serving as one of the world’s most advanced testing grounds for water management innovation. The panels and discussions definitely show that multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research is crucial to address the challenges of nowadays environmental issues. UPPA will definitely benefit from the ideas and group activities methodology that were proposed by this rich and intensive workshop led by Dr Seifeddine Jomaa from UFZ Centre for Environmental Research.

This workshop, organised by the Research Unit Water (TB2), is supported by the UFZ initiative “From Planetary Boundaries to Planetary Solutions” and moderated by the NextGen4MED initiative. See the LinkedIn post from the organizer.

Oct. 16th, 2025. The UPPA team of Erasmus+ RADIO received from Verdinum project a set of Raspberry PI5 Educational Kit and accessories to build cost-efficient digital platforms and raise awareness on the necessity of taking into account the energy impact of digital solutions. A talk on frugal energy will be integrated into UPPA’s Intensive Study Program.

Oct. 1-2, 2025. UPPA participated in the Non Terrestrial Networks event (NTN’2025 Days) organized in Toulouse, France by LAAS Laboratory. As satellite commications are becoming more and more crucial for deploying IoT and connected devices, UPPA took this opportunity to get the latest trends from scientific talks (see program) and expert panelists in this fast evolving domain. Talks on NTN will be added to the UPPA’s ISP to reflect the increasing importance of TNT technologies in the future IoT landscape!

Sep. 18th, 2025. Prof. B. Kechar from University of Oran 1 in Algeria, who was the scientific leader of the UORAN1 team for the PRIMA INTEL-IRRIS project, visited UPPA and took this opportunity to meet P. Faure and F. Sauvé from the Digital Service Department of Pau city to discuss on the various IoT  and Digital Twins technologies that are used in several deployment projects in Pau and its agglomeration. This meeting was also the opportunity to plan the various presentations and talks that will be given by Prof. Kechar, P. Faure and F. Sauvé in the multidisciplinary ISP “IoT and their applications” that is developed by UPPA in the ERASMUS+ RADIO project.

July 3-4, 2025. After LPWAN’24 that was organized by UPPA team, the whole LPWAN community in France is meeting in Rennes for LPWAN’25 to present the latest technological trends on radio technolologies to connect IoT devices: LoRa, mioty, wirepas, NR+, etc. LPWAN (Low-Power Wide Area Networks) refer to networks composed of low-cost devices capable of communicating over very long distances, typically several kilometers, while consuming very little energy. These networks are particularly suitable for deployments over large areas or in environments requiring robust communication, thanks to direct transmissions between nodes and base stations. Thus, LPWANs represent one of the key infrastructures for the Internet of Things (IoT). Each year, LPWAN event is also receiving presentations illustrating how IoT technologies are deployed in innovative multidisciplinary projects in smart city, smart building, environmental, wildlife, etc. Check the LPWAN’25 program of this year, but also the program of all the previous editions. You can have links to all previous editions here.

As a major event on key technologies for IoT, the developed multidisciplinary ISP on IoT in ERASMUS+ RADIO will directly benefit from all the scientific presentations and keynote talks of LPWAN’25 with state-of-the-art information on a very fast changing ecosystem from academic and industrial experts. UPPA itself gave a presentation on how to improve scalability of deployed LoRaWAN technology for large and dense IoT systems.

June 3-4, 2025. Taking advantage of the INFORSID conference that took place at UPPA (organized by Philippe Roose and Christian Sallaberry from LIUPPA laboratory), Prof. C. Pham discussed with:

    • Lylia Abrouk from University of Bourgogne and Alexi Guyot from LIRMM who organized and animated the workshop on “Anomaly Detection in Environmental Data”
    • Nicolas Girardin, president of the IAPau association which objectives are to bring together researchers, teachers, entrepreneurs, students and socio-economic actors in order to share knowledge and experience on using AI technologies. The panel on “AI in Entreprises and Businesses” presented several local use cases that illustrate the potential of AI in businesses
    • Prof. Angelo Steffenel from University of Reims who has numerous contributions in applied AI for smarter agriculture in the last 10 years

They will all contribute with keynotes and seminars in the multi-disciplinary Intensive Study Programs that will be sketched by UPPA for ERASMUS+ RADIO.

Mar. 31st, 2025. Prof. C. Pham was invited by the French Embassy in Panama to present the methodology, the results and lessons learnt from PRIMA INTEL-IRRIS project at a scientific France-Panama event co-organized by the French Ambassy on innovation for sustainable agriculture. Taking this opportunity, he also participated in Panel 4, dedicated to opportunities to study in France, to present the multi-disciplinary environment pushed by University of Pau and the ERASMUS+ RADIO project that will build multi-disciplinary Intensive Study Programs (ISP). One ISP from University of Pau will be specifically designed to increased capacity-building in IoT and advanced sensing systems with typically the domain of sustainable agriculture and environmental surveillance in mind.

Mar. 10th, 2025. The Erasmus+ RADIO project is presented in the March 2025 Newsletter that UPPA is publishing and distributing to collaborators and stakeholders. See the online version

Feb. 25th, 2025. The RADIO survey to initiate the capacity-building activities by RADIO offices is now available! You can download a .pdf version.

Dec. 11th, 2024. UPPA is leading WP2 on “RADIO Initiation & Establishment, Requirements & Investigation Tasks”. It has started to work on a survey to identify the specific competences of successful international practices targeting research and innovation in all disciplines involved. The objectives are then to provide a comprehensive set of intensive study programs/ training programs/ workshops on specific scope of each RADIO office.

Nov. 1st, 2024. Official start date for the project. Kick-off is scheduled and tasks/activities will be starting soon!
